Kaspersky Lab’s Kaspersky Safe Kids solution has been certified by AV-TEST for its ability to protect children from online dangers. During rigorous testing, the product correctly identified 90% of inappropriate websites, including those that feature sex, chatrooms, dating sites, illegal data exchanges, gambling sites, games, shopping sites, sites featuring weapons and many others.

The testing compared the performance of Kaspersky Safe Kids, Norton Family, Microsoft Family Safety and Internet security packages from F-Secure, Quick Heal and Trend Micro. During testing, a fictitious seven-year-old child attempted to access about 10,000 websites, including over 6,700 sites deemed inappropriate for children, and over 3,000 websites tailored to children.

To be awarded with the coveted AV-TEST certification, the parental control software had to meet set requirements for the accurate detection and filtering of websites, preventing children’s access to 80% of unsuitable websites, yet blocking no more than 10% of websites deemed suitable for children.

Kaspersky Safe Kids prevented the viewing of inappropriate websites, beating the competition and almost always scoring over 90%. For websites containing content about weapons and ammunition, for example, Kaspersky Safe Kids scored 99%, compared to Norton Family, which scored 80% and Microsoft Family Safety which scored 0%. Kaspersky Safe Kids was also awarded 91% accuracy for identifying appropriate websites; demonstrating the solution’s ability to provide children with a high quality, but safe, Internet experience.

“The Internet is full of dangers, but that shouldn’t stop parents from letting their children explore the online world. That is why we developed Kaspersky Safe Kids – to provide young Internet users with robust and reliable protection. The product strikes a balance between blocking inappropriate websites andmaintaining access to harmless ones, thanks to deep expert knowledge of new and emerging threats on the Internet and our own in-house development of award-winning content filtering technologies. Achieving AV-TEST certification for our solution is testament to its capabilities,” says Evgeny Smirnov, Head of Content Filtering Research at Kaspersky Lab.
