{"id":421,"date":"2012-12-26T10:04:48","date_gmt":"2012-12-26T15:04:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kaspersky.co.in\/blog\/?p=421"},"modified":"2020-02-26T20:25:29","modified_gmt":"2020-02-26T14:55:29","slug":"the-next-time-you-feel-like-posting-a-picture-of-your-debit-or-credit-card-dont","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kaspersky.co.in\/blog\/the-next-time-you-feel-like-posting-a-picture-of-your-debit-or-credit-card-dont\/421\/","title":{"rendered":"Posting photos of your debit card\u2026 is a terrible idea"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This really shouldn\u2019t need to be said, but here goes: You should never, ever \u2013 under any circumstances \u00a0\u2013 post a picture of your debit or credit card anywhere online.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With hackers already using various methods to get hold of consumers\u2019 card numbers \u2013 through phishing scams, hacking into payment systems or attacking databases full of card numbers \u2013 card fraud is already difficult to prevent. \u00a0So consumers really shouldn\u2019t do anything that makes it even easier for attackers to gain access to valuable information.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>@NeedADebitCard<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This summer, one Twitter account (@NeedADebitCard) gained notoriety because it aggregated tweets in which users candidly displayed <a href=\"https:\/\/threatpost.com\/en_us\/blogs\/there-no-reason-take-picture-your-debit-card-ever-070312\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">pictures of their credit cards and debit cards<\/a>. The account continues to thrive, with more than 11,000 followers.\u00a0 If this is occurring on Twitter, just imagine how much activity could be happening on Facebook \u2013 which has far more users.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While it\u2019s understandable that some people may get excited when they receive their new cards, it\u2019s essential that consumers don\u2019t give criminals easy access to precious card data.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So, again, please: Do not do this.
